It’s a Small World

by Ann O’Brien Ahmad

ASAK. When I was researching my article “Until the Day of Judgment,” one of the sources I used was a newsletter written by Mufti Muhammed Bin Ishaaq Gaibee in the United Kingdom. One of his students found the article on my blog and told the Mufti about it. Recently, Mufti Muhammad Bin Ishaaq Gaibee sent an e-mail to his newsletter list and forwarded the e-mail to me. The e-mail needs no explanation, so I am simply sharing it with you (his e-mail is in green):

I hope and make duaa to Allah that you are in the best of health. Please do find attached the 12th Issue of the An-Najaah article. We have also attached the May 2012 issue for reference purposes to the latest issue.

These two issues makes mention with regards to the hiring of Masajid being not permissible. As this has become a major concern to sincere Muslims across the globe it was mentioned in detail from a sharia point in the May 2012 issue. It has been four months that we have placed a challenge to those who have issued “so called fatawa” and legalising the hiring of Masajid to bring any shari proof that a shari Masjid could be given for rent or changed to a hall. Up to date we have not received any evidence which states that one may hire a shari Masjid. However through the fadl and karam of Allah we have received 26 Fatawa from 26 different ifta bodies (Shafi and Hanafi) from many parts of the world supporting the May article and clearly stating that it is not permissible to hire a Masjid or change a Masjid into a hall.

Countries from where these Fatawa were sent are as follows:

  1. India x6 (Deoband, Saharanphur, Jameah Husainiyah/ Shewardan, Gujrat )
  2. Pakistan x2 (Karachi)
  3. UAE x2
  4. Saudi Arabia x4 (Jeddah/ Madina)
  5. Australia x2 (Perth/Sydney)
  6. South Africa x4 (Jnb/Durban)
  7. Egypt x2
  8. Indonesia x1
  9. Malaysia x1
  10. USA x2

A few points mentioned in these fatawa are as follows:

  1. By hiring out a Masjid one is violating the sanctity of the Masjid
  2. One will be answerable to Allah on the Day of Qiyamt as to why Allah’s house was changed into a hall and hired
  3. People who make these decisions should be careful as this leads to other violations
  4. Why should the Masjid be given on rent where as it is WQAF and belongs to Allah
  5. The Muslim Ummah have contributed towards the Masjid why should they be charged for the usage

At the same time I would like to thank Sister Ann O’Brien Ahmad for creating a blog with regards to this issue. May Allah Ta’ala use her to serve the deen.

Very intresting article. The community should wake up and smell the coffee! They should leave the Msjid as it is the house of Allah.
