Plan H—Analysis

ASAK. In order for the community to compare Plan H with Plans E and I, I have summarized the same information for Plan H:

It is important to realize that Plan H is the initial draft drawn by the architect. No changes or revisions have been made. For instance, I believe that the prayer area is too large at 12,500 square foot, the social area is too large at 8,248 square foot, and the lobby is too small at 1,500 square foot. Some of the hallways need to be widened along with other tweaks. While $6,588,000 is below the Board’s total project cap of $6.9 million, it would be much better if Plan H cost $6 million or less. I believe that is doable with this plan after it has been adequately reviewed and revisions made.

ADDRESSING THE COMMUNITY’S CONCERNS:

Plan H addresses several of the community’s concerns:

  • The existing prayer hall remains a prayer hall.
  • The women’s prayer area has been moved to the first floor with the men’s prayer area. Additionally, the advantage that Plan H has over Plan I is that the women can use the existing masjid entrance and not be forced to enter the prayer area with the men.
  • There is no second floor or basement.
  • The lobby/gathering areas have been reduced by 9,941 square feet over Plan E.
  • The cost of Plan H is $2,977,000 lower than Plan E and $1,803,000 lower than Plan I.

I am really baffled as to why the Expansion Committee and Board of Directors did not give serious consideration to Plan H. It addresses more of the community’s concerns than Plans E or I do and will cost much less. We need a plan that is reasonable and can be completed in a couple of years, so that we can move on and start addressing other community needs. With adjustments, Plan H makes much more sense for the community than either Plan E or Plan I.

Well as the plan shows that it fulfills almost all of the demands of community what was the reason to go for a plan which is not upto the demands of the community. It seems that BOD and BOT are working on something that they don’t want to share with the community. They want to hurt the religious feelings ,go beyond their pocket ,lie about the numbers (about the # of members collected money and time) but want their plan to be built .

Br. Fasahat demonstrated today what I would call as COURAGE UNDER FIRE. He expressed his dissent in a polite yet stern manner. He was objective and called it as he saw it. There was no hypocrisy in his speech and that is the hallmark of a person who believes his accountability is to Allah SWT and noone else . He was the voice of sanity and represented the views of majority in the community . Glad he didnt spend time gloating about the “super-success” of Noor Academy; instead addressed the issue that is on everyone’s mind. Fashat Bro, you reminded us of the person who corrected Umar Bin Khattab in public when he said something that wasnt correct. May ALLAH SWT guide the BOT’S/BOD’S and us all. Ameen !!!!

Spread the word that people should attend the meeting at IAGD this Sunday after Zhuhr. Let’s take a close look at the finances and the plans. I hope people remain respectful even if they disagree. Inshallah this could be a turning point for IAGD- one in which the community feedback can not be side-stepped. Let’s stick to facts & refrain from saying hurtful things about anyone.

It is really disturbing that the Board is not allowing us to upload pictures that our the “intellectual property” of IAGD. Since when did they own IAGD? IAGD and everything that belong to it is the property and the right of every single community member.
For this reason, I took a picture of Plan H (which many members believe is the best plan, and which the BOD hasn’t posted in the lobby) from my cell phone and uploaded it to my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/iagd/

Just as a side note, this is just my own thing. I did this on my own accord and probably Sister Ann or Brother Fasahat don’t even know me.
