IAGD’s Alternate Expansion Plan Site

I am starting this blog so that ongoing dialog about IAGD’s Expansion Plan can be consolidated in one place. Everyone is free to comment on the content on this blog. However, I will be moderating the blog and will delete posts that use offensive language.

This blog is being started by me personally and is not in any way, shape, or form endorsed by IAGD.

If you have any content that you feel should be posted as a separate blog entry, please feel free to e-mail it to me at ann@icgnews.com.

Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts.

ASAK Ann; Thanks for starting this blog.

You make some good points. Is it possible to get copy of President’s letter?
I surely think we should discuss this further to before make a final decision.

Ann, You are working very hard and we really need more community members like you who say their concerns and opinions as they will any where else. I have seen beautiful, huge mosques in other states that no one comes to, even on Fridays. They were built decades ago by the new immigrant generations of that time. Few of them even had whole Muslim subdivisions built around them now populated by mostly non-Muslims. The job centers moved away and the younger generation were not much interested for one thing or another, who eventually moved out too. In 1991 there were 30 established mosques in greater Detroit, there must be lot more now with the speed and funding collected before the burst of real estate bubble and the start of the double dip recession. By the way, I just heard on radio this morning that in next 30 years maximum economic growth in Michigan will be 10%, with most all new graduates move after the jobs to South, leaving barely 10% of them behind. I know it breaks a Muslim’s heart to stop following his dream of building still bigger and more beautiful mosques. But who said the money can’t be put to use for any other community service that it really going to need e.g, Muslim youth development and senior housing & care.

i think sister Ann should post the mail in which prominent community members have expressed their concern on the current plan.It will help th people in understanding their stance on the issue.

Can someone hold a seminar at IAGD on the topic of “The Art of Disagreement”? It should be chaired by someone who is respceted well by all of us and is not considered partisan by any one tied to IAGD.

Actually, that is an EXCELLENT topic that needs to be addressed in ALL communities. We really should take time to address such issues and educate ourselves. Elsewhere on this blog, Sr. Ann addressed her own need to find out information on ‘fitna’ which also is a word many people toss around, don’t fully understand, and need to learn more about. Unfortunately, for too long, the major focus of our community has been on building a bigger and better structure to (someday) hold such seminars, but that has left us waiting for the day when we can get to increasing our knowledge. Bricks and mortar don’t increase imaan like sharing knowledge does.
